Tools Inspection – Colleagues, there are many people out there who get injured while using tools. Many of these injuries occur due to improper use, but some people get injured because of broken or repaired tools.

This time, we will discuss non-electric or pneumatic handheld tools, such as those found in almost every workplace and at home, like screwdrivers, hammers, chisels, and wrenches.

Yes, we know this isn’t comprehensive, but these are some of the most commonly used hand tools:

Hammer – Make sure the handle is not broken or splintered. If the handle is taped, it is likely damaged and needs to be replaced. 🔨

Remember, for any tool, tape is not a solution for repairing it. If the tape comes off and the hammerhead flies off the handle, you will get injured. So, ensure the hammer head is securely attached to the handle and discard the hammer if any part is broken.

Screwdriver – Again, make sure the handle is not splintered or broken. 🪛

Many people use screwdrivers as chisels and hit the back with a hammer. This can damage the screwdriver and its handle. If the screwdriver head is chipped or worn out, replace the screwdriver.

Chisel – Chisels are strong tools, but like other tools, they will start to wear out over time. 🧰

Now, check the back of the chisel. Often, the back of the chisel will start to mushroom. When it mushrooms, the chisel needs to be properly repaired or replaced.

Wrench – Make sure the wrench is not bent. 🔧

Replace wrenches that are chipped or excessively worn. A worn or broken wrench can easily slip off a bolt, causing hand injuries to the user.

Do The Tools Inspection By:

  • Keeping them clean. Dirty tools are harder to use safely and correctly.
  • Not modifying hand tools. Maintain the original manufacturer’s design.
  • Securing all hand tools and storing them properly. Tools that are not properly stored can be lost, stolen, or damaged.
  • Using tools as they are designed to be used. This will keep the tools in good condition, lasting longer and safer to use.

So, have you inspected your tools yet? If not, check them now to avoid getting injured while working!
